Default Self vs Creative Self

When we run on auto-pilot, the ego’s safety patterns try to control, fix, and predict. That works until it shrinks our world. The shift isn’t to fight the ego, but to notice the loop, name what’s present, and choose a small creative action. That is the move from Default → Creative.

Two gentle tools help: the Rabbit-Hole Alarm (a pause when spirals start) and the Thought-Catcher (a way to steer the conversation you’re having with yourself).

Three lenses for your inner dialogue: Identity (who I think I am), Solutions (how I approach problems), and Interaction (how I relate). Together they shape what you notice, feel, and do.

A practical tip: when tension rises, ask one question from each amigo. Identity: “What story about me is loud?” Solutions: “What tiny next step is available?” Interaction: “What tone do I want to bring?”

Creativity isn’t just art—it’s how we make sense, make meaning, and make real. When bias narrows our view, presence widens it again. Distortion loses power when met with curiosity.

Pair emotion with a new cue (“fire & rewire”): feel the charge, breathe, and choose one small step aligned with values. That’s how the nervous system learns safety in motion.
